Adaptive Boxing to impact life at home, at school, at work, and in the world!
Adaptive boxing is non-contact boxing training for people who use prosthetics or wheelchairs. Our adaptive program runs parallel to our typical boxing activities, and allows for necessary modifications. Our goal is for you to continue improving your physical fitness and mental health while connecting with other people in our community through the sport of boxing.
Benefits for adaptive boxing training include:
improvement in physical quality of life — decrease fatigue, improve balance, and help reduce the probability of future health events that may deteriorate health
improvement in mental quality of life — cognitive, emotional, and social aspects including reducing stress and anxiety levels, improving self-image and confidence, and promoting social relationships
improvement in family life — diversification of social resources and relationships benefits all members of the family
Our gym is rooted in evidence-based practices and innovation.
Interested in adaptive boxing but aren’t sure where to start?
Take one of our adaptive boxing classes to check our vibe and see if boxing is right for you. This specialized class is geared toward individual ability levels. No experience in boxing necessary!
If you like boxing, the adaptive class and personal training can continue to be options for you. We also aim to integrate everyone into our typical boxing training, when possible.
Caregivers may attend our adaptive boxing classes. The level of caregiver participation will be discussed on a case-by-case basis with a coach.
No referral necessary. Contact one of our Coaches or stop by the gym to discuss how to get started.
What to expect at our gym
Our gym isn’t fancy! Dress for the weather. Bring a water bottle (and we have a water fountain). We have gloves you can borrow until you get your own. Standard athletic wear is appropriate for boxing.
Training and practicing in our typical classes may allow the best of both worlds. Coaches are ready to help you decide what’s best for you.
Competitive boxing?
If you’re already dreaming big, check out the USA Paralympics website for information on competing in the paralympics. There are many sports in which to compete, such as track and field and archery, and boxing is great for cross-training in every sport.
Adaptive boxing may also be a paralympic sport in the near future. Our future adaptive competitive boxing program will be based on paralympic classifications. The use of a detailed classification system based on age and disability classification is designed to allow for a fair competition. We will have more information on competitive adaptive boxing as soon as it’s available from the national governing body.

Mindy and Steve Vernier are dedicated boxing coaches starting adaptive boxing in Tennessee!
Mindy and Steve have been coaching adaptive boxing online, creating a supportive and empowering community. Now, with this partnership, we can offer in-person adaptive boxing classes to offer even more ways to develop resilience, strength, and community.
They have partnered with Coach Christy Halbert of Boxing Resource Center (based out of Fighters Gym in Nashville) to start the first adaptive boxing program in Tennessee. There are a few crucial updates needed to ensure everyone has access to the facility and the equipment, so we’ve launched a GoFundMe campaign for ramps, equipment modification, and boxing equipment.
Weekly adaptive classes will be offered starting in December!
